Fire

The element of fire
Constructive, destructive
The bright light of fire
The slight of fire
The all consuming fire

Does not exist
In its natural form.
Exists only by consuming
Another form,
It transforms from one
To another.

Fuels our passion
Leaves everything ashen
Duels the darkness
Heaves on compassion.

Fire, constructively destructive
Fire, destructively constructive
Fire, living death
Fire, dying life.

The Middle Child

So much
depends on
the middle child

a  sibling between
The eldest and youngest

blamed for troubles
and sometimes
the hero

always placed in
the middle of things.

--Cheyenne Travioli

Polaroid

Waxy film
crumples under
the weight
     of
time.

Smiles blurr
at the
      edge
of
memory.

Life was
never
meant
to be
captured.

The caged
bird
can’t
sing
forever.

--Bailey Blaker

My favorite dog

The sun shines on Trina.
playful,
beautiful.

She plays chicken,
                runs fast,
Protective.

Under the sun,
 she looks tall.

                She’s warm,
                Like a bear.

Swimming

As I dive
into the water

I
Instantly get a rush of
cold.

Freezing

Untitled

The hunter draws back the bow string.
The target, shuffling menacingly,
Remains unaware.

The hunter’s tension obvious through thick camo cloth
Layers, completely focused on the kill.

I approach silently.
The Happy Meal remains unaware.
